Alright you guys, who’s ready for summer?! ??♀️ Even though I live in Miami where it’s practically summer year-round, there’s something about the summertime that I love love love! It might have something to do with the fact that my birthday’s in the summer (August 10th! where my Leos at?) but IDK, I guess I just associate summer with pool days and ice cream and vacays with the fam.
For whatever reason, yes – I’m super excited for summer, so today I thought I’d share my top 10 summer essentials for millennials – but really, they’re for anyone who’s ready to have a little fun in the sun! Here’s what I make sure to have ready at the beginning of every summer.
Whether you’re a beach bum or rather chill by the pool, you still need a bag of some kind to lug all your stuff around in. I’m notorious for always having a HUGE bag of stuff with me at all times, but whatever, I just like to be prepared! A beach bag is perfect for keeping pretty much all the other stuff on this list – plus, a ton of water because it’s super important to stay hydrated.
I think it goes without saying, but I kinda want my hair to look good year-round. However, since having a baby, I haven’t had time to even consider stepping foot into a salon. The other day, though, I used SunIn for the first time in FOREVER, and I forgot how awesome the product really is.
For some reason, I thought that in order to use it you had to be out in the sun, but turns out, it’s heat activated, not just sun activated, so you can lighten up your hair with a hairdryer.
Just to give you an idea of how easy it is to use, I finished the whole process while my four month old was sleeping!
Here’s what you gotta do:
Spray SunIn on damp hair
Comb through to evenly distribute (for a sun-streaked look, spray only the strands you want highlighted – but I just sprayed it all over).
Bring out the results with a hairdryer.
So darn easy! I love that I was able to achieve the same natural highlights I usually get from the sun and way faster because it’s been a little hard to even see the sun these days as a stay at home mom.
The product’s advanced conditioning system also gives your hair an extra dose of shine, so I legit feel like I went to the spa for a hair treatment only I did it myself! These were the results after just one use!
Needless to say, I’ll be using it again soon!
If I’m going out for the day but forget my sunglasses, I might as well turn around and go home because honestly, I’m bound to be a miserable human being. I can’t function without my sunglasses – without them I tend to get a headache – so I always have a pair in my bag, another pair in my car, and another pair at my mom’s house – just in case. That being said, I don’t ever splurge on sunglasses because I think I’ve told you guys before that I have a tendency to sit on them by accident and break them. Cheap sunnies for the win!
Sandals + wedges
There are two pairs of shoes that I always make sure to include in my summer wardrobe – functional cute sandals (flats) and a pair of COMFORTABLE wedges. This season I’ve already bought a ton of both because Old Navy and Target have had the cutest shoes lately. These are my fave sandals ($22.99) and these are my fave wedges that are total dupes for the super expensive ones everyone on Instagram has.
A few good books
Before I became a mom, I used to have a ton of time to read and I really looked forward to lounging by the pool with a good book during the summer. Now with a 4 month old, I doubt I’ll have time to read even two sentences of a book, but if do have the time, reading is such a good way to spend it. Need some recommendations? Here are a couple. And if you’re an entrepreneur of any kind and want some good business tips, here’s another one you HAVE to read.
I can’t afford anymore wrinkles than I already have, so whenever I’m out in the sun, I need a hat to protect my face. And not just any hat. I’m talking an obnoxiously giant hat because go big or go home, right? I love the one I got recently for just five bucks.
Summer’s all about the cutest bathing suits, so each season I make sure to stock up on two or three new ones. This summer, I’m rocking the mom one-piece but that seems to be okay because they’re kind of trendy right now.
Cute cover up
And what goes with those bathing suits? A cute cover up of course. Something light and easy to take on and off. Sure, you could use a plain old t-shirt and a pair of shorts, but for the full summer vacay experience, there’s something to be said about having a nice cover up.
You know what’s NOT trendy this season? A massive sunburn that leaves you looking like a lobster. That’s not a good look on anyone, trust me. As I’ve gotten older I’ve been so much more careful about taking care of my skin, so don’t leave home without sunscreen – especially during the summer.
Last but not least are a few makeup staples for the summer. If you always need to wear mascara (that wold be me!), make sure you have a waterproof one handy and as for foundation, opt for something lighter for your skin like a good cc cream instead.
So that’s it! Those are my top 10 summer essentials! What else do you guys consider essentials for the summer? Let me know in the comments down below!
