Joe makes me watch trailers all the time. The other day, we stumbled across this one.
Now before you watch it, brace yourself…you’re probably going to cry.
You see…I told you.
Lizzie Velasquez’s story really resonates with me for so many different reasons that I can’t even begin to write them all down.
But at the root of it all, is this…
Why are people so damn mean?
It breaks my heart to see that anyone would have to go through so much pain.
It kills me to see the bullying that exists everywhere.
Why can’t people just be accepting of others regardless of what they look like, how they speak, the kinds of clothes that they wear…the people who they choose to love?
I mean, what do people actually gain from being so cruel?
I don’t know that we’ll ever really get an answer to that question.
But I can tell you that I’m going to do everything I can to stand up for anyone who’s being bullied.
You see it every day, though.
Bullying isn’t just something that’s happening in school.
It’s not only limited to 5th graders. Not to 7th graders. Not only limited to teens in high school.
No…you see it at work too…
Now, when kids bully kids, it’s wrong…but at least you can potentially argue that they don’t know any better…
But adults??? That’s a totally different story.
We KNOW better.
So we should act better.
And we should be kind. And we should respect others. And we should teach our kids to do the same.
Lizzie Velasquez is a super inspiring human.
The fact that she’s been able to face those who’ve bullied her and the fact that she’s made it her personal goal to share her story so that other victims of bullying can learn from her…. that’s amazing.
And I have nothing but total respect and admiration for her.
She’s handled her story like a champ.
And I wish there were more people in this world like her.
They’ve called her the ugliest woman alive, but at the end of the day, she’s not the ugly one.
Check out her kick-ass TedX talk below titled, “How Do You Define Yourself.”
FYI… she’s super funny and has an awesome personality!
