So here’s a story for you guys. I used to have terrible acne. Like, really bad. I used to get breakouts all over my face and all over my back, too. I remember dreading the spring and summertime because that meant getting into a bathing suit and hitting the beach and when you’re covered in blemishes, that’s no bueno.
Thankfully, today, my acne’s SO MUCH BETTER! I think it just gradually improved as I got older. That being said, every once in a while I still get breakouts so today I’m sharing a few tips to keeping your face nice and beach-ready for the next couple of months!
So without further adieu, here’s how to keep your skin clear this summer!
Wash your face twice a day
I’m admittedly the worst at this, but when I’m trying to keep my skin clear, I’m religious about washing my face twice a day. In the morning, I wash my face to get rid of all those nasty dead skin cells and at night, I wash again to remove all my makeup from the day.
I’ve recently been using this ZAPZYT Acne Wash and I love it. It contains 2% salicylic acid which helps exfoliate your skin and reduce blocked pores and breakouts. But what I love even more is that it’s got aloe and chamomile which helps to reduce redness, because I’ve got super sensitive skin and a lot of the washes I used to use as a teenager would irritate my face in a second. Now, FYI…you don’t have to go and change your entire beauty routine. Just add a few of these ZAPZYT products and you’ll be good to go!
Wear less makeup
That being said, during the hot summer months, try to let your skin breathe a bit. Don’t pack on the heavy foundations and tons of blush and bronzer. Instead, go for a light CC cream or a tinted moisturizer. Also look for products that are oil-free and noncomedogenic – aka they shouldn’t cause acne.
Use a spot treatment
You know that feeling when you’ve got a pool party to go to in the morning and you suddenly feel a huge zit forming on your face? Ughhh that’s the worst. That’s why it’s super important to keep a spot treatment handy and to start treating your blemishes the moment you feel them coming on. I love this ZAPZYT Acne Gel because it works like a charm and gets rid of those problem zits super fast.
After using tons of products over the years, I found that the only thing that really helped my breakouts was benzoyl peroxide, and that’s the main ingredient in this thing. 10% benzoyl peroxide which kills acne-causing bacteria and clears up your skin in just a few days.
The acne treatment gel is water based and doesn’t contain alcohol like the competitive products – which only irritates and adds to the redness of the already red/inflamed zit area. Start with a small amount and then adjust how much you use according to your skin type. If you’re sensitive to benzoyl peroxide though, try ZAPZYT’s Pore Treatment Gel that contains 2% salicylic acid instead.
Clean your phone
We never think about cleaning our phones, but they’re probably the dirtiest things we own. We throw them around everywhere, are constantly touching them with dirty hands, and then, they go on our face. That’s kinda gross if you think about it. We DO NOT need extra bacteria on our faces, so at least once a day, consider wiping your phone down to get rid of those germs.
Stay hydrated – Drink lots of water
You know how in science class they told you that the human body’s made up of like 60% water? Well, that’s why we need to stay hydrated – especially during the summer when it’s so darn hot. When you’re dehydrated, your skin is more prone to bacteria and you’re not flushing all those toxins out, so grab a water bottle of some sort – I love this tumbler from La La Confetti – and keep it with you 24/7 all summer long.
Don’t pick at your face
Another thing I’m terrible about. I used to spend hours at a time picking at my face! Ughhh that makes me want to cringe just thinking about it. I think I have a slight case of OCD and hate seeing blackheads and whiteheads pop up on my face, but as tempting as it is to pop those blemishes, DON’T. It can lead to scarring or infection and that’s way worse than the pimple itself.
Watch what you eat
Overall, when you eat better, you feel better, and usually, your skin just tends to glow. Feed yourself real foods this summer (lots of fruits and veggies) and you might see a huge improvement in your skin.
Tons of studies out there have linked stress with acne, so take a chill pill my friend, and relax. Take a breather, practice some self-care, and try to enjoy a stress-free summer. Your skin will thank you for it.
So those, my friends, are a few ways to keep your skin clear this summer! If you’re interested in checking out any of the ZAPZYT products, head over to your nearest Walmart to stock up! Between a ton of traveling and caring for a 4 month old, the last thing I need is to be worrying about my skin. IDK about you, but aint nobody got time for that! Anyway, what else do you guys swear by to keep your skin clear? Let me know in the comments!
