Alright guys. Take a deep breath. Relax.
Repeat after me: It’s going to be ok.
I know the holidays are super stressful, and December always feels like a giant blur of deadlines and online orders, but today I’m sharing a few tips to help you keep this time of year as stress-free as possible.
As a busy work-from-home mom myself, these days I need to be at my absolute best in order to stay on top of everything I need to do. So how do I manage it all? How do I juggle the never ending to-do list that comes with managing a business, a baby, and a home?
Well, here are a few things for starters.
Okay, so when we talk about tackling stress, I think it goes without saying that it affects us both mentally and physically. Given that December is full of deadlines and holiday shopping and goal setting and literally, all the things, it’s so darn easy to forget to take care of ourselves.
I know I’ve personally seen such a huge difference in my attitude and mental state whenever I stay hydrated throughout the day, so this month especially, make a real effort to stay on top of your water intake.
You think it’d be an easy thing to do, right? I mean, it’s almost 2019 and self-driving cars are a thing, but we can’t drink enough water? How crazy is that?!
But in all seriousness, most people just don’t. Most people don’t drink the daily recommended amount of liquids in a day, and that’s one of the key things that contributes to optimal health and exercise performance.
So how much water should we be drinking in a day?
Mayo Clinic recommends we consume 6.3 cups a day (the average consumed is 2.5 cups).
Come on! We can do better than that!
I literally keep bottles of smartwater® all throughout my house. I know it seems a little excessive to have a bottle in every room, but if it’s not visible, I’ll totally forget, so I like to keep them everywhere – almost like they’re stalking me – but hey, whatever works!
FYI, in addition to smartwater®, Coca-Cola® has a bunch of different options to keep you hydrated all day long. Figure out which one’s your favorite and keep your fridge stocked at all times!
I’ll be honest…I’m seriously a huge mess most of the time. If I don’t have a system in place to sort out my never ending to-do lists, there’s no way I’d ever be able to accomplish anything. One of the things I started doing this month was using these cute powersheets I created to write down my daily tasks.
I can keep track of all my business and blog to-dos and also throw in all my household chores, errands, meals, and yes – my water intake too.
I’ve found it so helpful lately to focus on each of these categories and write everything down on paper, so I’ve been setting aside just a few minutes each morning to fill out my power sheet and it’s made a world of a difference.
Between Riley’s first birthday party, her upcoming cake smash photoshoot, my mother-in-law coming to visit and obviously, Christmas, without these power sheets I’d be a hot hot mess.

Focus on Your Top 3 Things
Now this is a productivity tip I’d heard a lot about in the past, but it wasn’t until recently that I started implementing it myself.
See, the way my brain works, it tends to just dump out a bunch of random things I need/want to get done. So in my mind, I’ve always got a running list of tasks that I need to tackle eventually.
But instead of actually tackling them, usually I just get so overwhelmed by the amount of things that I need to do – and as a result, I end up hiding under the covers doing NOTHING because I can’t handle it all.
Does that make sense?
Soooo, needless to say, that wasn’t a very good strategy. So instead, I’ve started focusing on my top 3 tasks every day and it’s made a world of a difference. Each day I ask myself – “what are the three things that absolutely need to get done today?”
Things that have a deadline…things that really can’t wait. Then I add them to my top 3 section in my power sheet and those are the things I focus on that day.
Set Aside Some Me Time
As much as we want to accomplish all the things sometimes, I think it’s equally important to set some time aside for ourselves. Whether it’s in the morning, after lunch, or right before bed, make it a point to slow down, relax, and prioritize your own well-being amidst all the chaos and hustle and bustle that comes with the holiday season.
Go for a walk, take a bubble bath, read a book just because you want to… whatever gives you that much-needed break that you need, go do it.
Now as a busy mama, I don’t get a ton of me-time, but I do try to relax with the little one every once in a while and catch up on YouTube videos or watch some of my favorite shows. It’s so necessary every once in a while.
And again, I know it’s not technically just “ME” time, but I love going for walks with my little one as a way to help me de-stress.
Whenever I start feeling overwhelmed, I put my shoes on, get her in the stroller, grab my POWERADE ZERO™ and head out for a walk around the neighborhood.
Sometimes I enjoy listening to the sounds of the outdoors and other times I listen to a podcast on my phone.
The end of the year is filled with messages about giving back and helping others, but remember – you can’t do that unless you’re helping yourself, too. And part of that means staying hydrated. Let’s not forget that.
Remember What The Season’s About
At the end of the day, December’s not supposed to be a super stressful time. I know that’s usually how it turns out to be, but that’s not what the season’s about. The season’s about spending time with those you love and slowing down a bit to appreciate all the good in your life and everything you’ve accomplished this far.
So this December, make sure you’re taking care of yourself and try not to let the stress get to you.
Stay hydrated so you have the energy to tackle all those last minute to-dos, keep yourself organized while prioritizing your most important tasks, and remember that there’s no shame in giving yourself a little break.
Believe me, we’ve earned it.
Stock up on smartwater® at your local Target, and stay hydrated this holiday season. Cheers, friends, to a happy, healthy, and hydrated New Year!
