I’m NOT a morning person.
There, I said it.
On average, I probably hit the snooze button 27 times times before I get up, leaving me with 10-15 minutes before I have to be out the door and on my way to work.
Yes, I’m a hot mess in the morning. No point in trying to deny it.
But because I’m always rushing to get ready, I’ve pretty much nailed my 5 minute makeup routine.
At this point, I could probably do it with my eyes closed, or while in the car, fighting through traffic.
Here’s what it looks like…
Remove residual makeup
The very first thing I do as part of my 5 minute makeup routine is I take off all residual makeup from the night before. Now if you know anything about makeup and skincare, then you know that you ought to ALWAYS take off your makeup before going to bed. But even when you do, it’s easy to wake up the next morning with smudged eyeliner on your face. So before I begin applying products, I take a small cotton pad and I use this Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water that I’m absolutely obsessed with. It takes everything off, and doesn’t leave me feeling greasy.
Once my face is nice and fresh, I focus on foundation. I’ll usually apply a primer first, or at the very least, a pore eraser like Maybeline’s Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser. Once my face is primed, I’ll apply a quick layer of foundation. If I’m going to be out in the sun, I’ll use IT Cosmetics’ CC+ Illuminator because it has SPF 50 and gives me a perfectly dewey glow. Otherwise, I’ll use my favorite foundation at the moment, Urban Decay’s Naked Skin. But regardless of which one I use, I’ll always set my face with some powder. I’ve been using Rimmel London’s matte powder for years, and I never leave home without it.
After I’ve applied a solid foundation, I’ll focus on blush, bronzer, and highlighter. With this Jaclyn Hill x Becca palette, I can kill all three of those things at once. and it only takes a few seconds. One of my favorite palettes of all time!
When I’m applying daytime makeup, I never do anything crazy with my eyes. I’m 26 years old and I still can’t do a solid winged eyeliner, so I’ve pretty much given up on fancy eyeliner for good. Instead, I’ll apply a pretty shadow to my lid, add some mascara, and call it a day.
These are two of the best drugstore eyeshadow products that I own. This is the Loreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Amber Rush which is hands down the most gorgeous eye shadow I’ve ever bought for less than $10.
And this is a new eyeshadow palette I picked up the other day from Maybeline. The colors are so romantic and pretty, making them perfect for a quick and easy wear-to-work makeup look.
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m super lame when it comes to lipstick. I’m not adventurous in this department AT ALL because it seems that no matter how hard I try, I can’t find shades that I like. Maybe I’m just too picky. But that’s fine because when I only have 5 minutes to do my makeup, I’ll usually just grab It Cosmetics’ Je Ne Se Quoi which is basically a fancy lip balm, and if I want my lips to stand out, I’ll use my favorite lip plumper from Too Faced. Only on the days when I’m REALLY feeling bold will I reach for Maybeline’s liquid matte glosses that I have in some beautifully bright colors.
Now, my secret weapon…
So that’s pretty much all there is to my makeup routine! That’s it! No more than 5 minutes! But I’ve found that regardless of how long I spend doing my makeup, if I don’t stay hydrated throughout the day, there’s no amount of makeup that’ll help me look like semi-decent.
Hence my love affair with vitaminwater zero.
