A Millennial’s Guide To Buying And Owning A Home

You guys, Joe and I have officially been home owners for a year now, but trust me- it wasn’t an easy ride getting to this point. So today my friend Mila’s sharing some really good info about buying and owning a home, stuff that will surely help you if you’re flirting with the idea of buying your first place. So here it is! Enjoy!

In my last post, I mentioned that my next life goal is to buy a house. That was no lie; I’ve got serious house fever, and I spend way too much time looking at houses online that I can’t afford. I dream about a three bedroom, two bath place with wood floors, a tricked out kitchen, and a huge back yard for all of the dogs I want. At this point in my life, though, I’m not financially ready, but that doesn’t mean I can’t start preparing myself for becoming a homeowner.

There’s a lot to know about buying and owning a home. There’s everything you have to do before you buy a home; financing, saving, searching and moving, and then there’s everything you need to know about owning a home, like maintenance and safety. It’s a huge thing to be a homeowner, so you really have to know your stuff.

My Top 5 Most Valuable Possessions

We live in a world of stuff.

We buy things, then we buy more things, but which ones are worth the most to us?
I mean think about it – if your house was burning down and you had only 10 minutes to run inside and save 5 items from your home, what would you go for?

The painting hanging over your bed? Your 60-inch plasma? Your family scrapbook?

What would you have a hard time living without?

Allstate recently conducted a survey to figure out what Americans valued most, and the results were pretty interesting.

Among the top 5 most valuable possessions were people’s homes, family keepsakes, personal technology, vehicles, and entertainment devices.

Guess we really can’t live without our phones and TVs these days!

Our New Thanksgiving Traditions As A Married Couple

A huge thank you to Cascade for sponsoring today’s post. As always, all opinions are my own.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday! I do love me some Christmas, but Thanksgiving  is my all-time fave.

For Joe and I, this was our second Thanksgiving as a married couple, and one of the things that I love most about married life is that we’re starting to establish our own holiday traditions.

So I thought it’d be fun to recap our Thanksgiving this year, and let you in on what some of those new traditions are.

Making A Career Change + Finding Work That You Love

This post is made possible by support from the Forte Foundation. All opinions are my own.

For a very long time, I thought I had it all figured out.I thought I knew exactly where I wanted to be in my career, and in my early twenties,  I was on my way to getting there.

But then two years ago I found myself feeling stuck and miserable at a job that I hated, and I suddenly knew that I needed to make a career change. It wasn’t a fun time at first. It was actually quite frightening. Frightening and disruptive and if I’m being honest –  slightly problematic.

So I allowed myself to feel absolutely panicked for a couple of days, and after that, I started my journey of career discovery – aka, the most reflective two years of my life. Because between 2014 and 2016 I was on a quest for a job that suited me.I was trying to find work that I could love, and I was looking for a whole bunch of answers. After a lot of hard work and tons of introspection, I did  ultimately find those answers, and today I’m a much happier camper because of it.

Today I’m the published author of Corporate Survival Guide For Your Twenties, the founder of this millennial career & lifestyle blog, and I’m also working at BlackDog Advertising as a social media manager/digital content strategist.

Finally, things are starting to make sense.
