How To Host A Holiday Party That Doesn’t Suck

host-a-holiday-party

Christmas used to be fun.

We used to celebrate the holidays with our families and people would actually interact with one another.

But you know what a lot of holiday parties look like these days?

Everyone sitting  around the couch on their phones and iPads.

What the heck is THAT?!

Even grandpa’s on his phone! On Facebook!

So yea, I’m determined to not let that happen this year.

This year, if I have anything to say about it, our Christmas celebration’s gunna be awesome, and it’s gunna be 100% Facebook-free.

So if you’re ready to bring back the holiday spirit this season, here are a few things you might want to consider doing at your next holiday party.

Play Old Home Movies

I did this one year and it was a huge hit! I gathered a whole bunch of old home videos from different Christmases, and I played them on TV. It was so much fun watching my old self get excited about my dream house, and my parents and grandparents were all like, “Why can’t you guys be little again?” It was an awesome bonding moment for all of us, and it definitely kept us off our phones.

Decorate Cookies

Here’s something fun and easy you can do! Decorate Christmas cookies! You don’t even have to make the cookies from scratch- make it easy on yourself. Buy a box of sugar cookie mix, bake the cookies, and then use fun holiday cookie cutters to make them into Christmas trees and snowflakes! You can have them ready when everyone shows up to your house, and you can set up a decoration station with different icings and sprinkles. I think that’s a little more fun than Facebook stalking people from high-school. Am I right?!

Have A Photo Booth

Instead of taking a million selfies, set up a Photo Booth so everyone can join in and share in the holiday spirit! Again, it doesn’t have to be fancy, you just need a simple backdrop and some fun props. Everyone will love it, and it’ll get people laughing and making memories. Mission accomplished.

Make A Signature Drink

Come on! Make things festive! Have a special signature cocktail at you party and teach people how to make it! Have a recipe card available, and encourage everyone to try making it! That’ll get people off the couch for sure!

Decorate Stockings

How about stockings? That could be fun! You can buy a whole bunch of them real cheap, have some glitter glue available, and let people go to town! Crafts like these can be fun and relaxing, and everyone will want to have the best stocking so they’ll have no problem showing off their skills.

Build A Gingerbread House

I can’t remember the last time I had one of these, but I want to build one so badly! So this year, I think I’ll force everyone to build a gingerbread house, even if it does result in an epic fail.

So yea, those are some of my ideas for making holiday parties actually fun!

What about you guys? What fun stuff do you do at holiday parties that make them not-so-lame? This is important, people! We need to know! Feel free to share in the comments!

I don’t make parties or something like that. But when somebody prepares this party for me, I won’t be bored for sure haha. 🙂

I love these ideas so much!! Especially since they all revolve around setting the phones to the side and having fun together. My family plays card games when we are all together, and it’s something I always look forward to!
